Bush won't rule out future pardon for Libby

July 3, 2007

As if commuting Scooter Libby's sentence wasn't bad enough, George W. Bush has refused to rule out a pardon.

"As to the future, I rule nothing in and nothing out," Bush said. "I made a judgment, a considered judgment. I stand by it."

Considered is perhaps an odd choice, given Bush's apparent role in what got Libby convicted in the first place. Yes, presidents can pardon anyone that want, but the idea (like his father) of pardoning people who likely committed crimes along with the president screams hypocrisy from the mountain tops.

It does keep the Scooter Libby story in the news all the way up to January 2009. THis is not good news for Fred Thompson, who has worked hard to raise funds for Libby's defense.
